Sorry that last post was so long. I’m just done all my stuff now and have a week of classes left and am kind of pleased about it. Since there isn’t a DJS5 blogoff going on anymore I thought I’d post something cool but then I realized that all I’ve been doing is working on things, so I posted one of them. I’ll post the address to my (boring boring) website on energy conservation when it goes live.
I saw Kill Bill Vol. 1 the other day (as a reward for getting the website project done). Nicey Nice.
A week from today is Do Nothing Day and a week from tomorrow Ludmilla and I start the drive back to Winnipeg. It’s been way too long since I’ve played UA, so I’m emailing people and getting games set up. Fun fun!
So I can’t publish my story that I got in court today. That includes putting it here. Not that it’s tremendously exciting or lascivious. It’s just that I covered a preliminary hearing. And it might prejudice some juror who read it somewhere for the real trial. I’d be hunted down and be in contempt of court.
It was my first time being in court though, and a little bit of contempt wouldn’t kill it. In order to walk up to the desks where the Crown and defence sit, people have to do a little bow to the judge. Icky side of deference.
The other day in print I had to set people straight that those church of god people (who had that big legal battle about hitting their kids with paddles) in Aylmer(?) weren’t Mennonites. Since Mennonites use extension cords.
I sort of slept this afternoon while I’s supposed to be dealing with my Media & Politics presentation. It’s been too long since I’d woken up in my own bed without an alarm kicking my ass to do it. It seems like an entire week went by of stressful wakeups after too short sleeps. Kind of nice to nap.
Now I have to gear up to pretend to care about the football I’m going to watch against the Saskies (cause there’s no way I’m watching it with them). It will be an effort of my will that makes the Bombers win if they do today. I apologize to everyone and take full responsibility if I am not strong enough. Don’t hurt me.
Do you want to hear about my radio feature troubles? No? Then read MY ENTRY in the DJS5 blogging competition instead. It’s very happy. I was walking and trying to regroup as stories fell apart all over me when I saw that fake Remembrance ceremony going on.
Tomorrow I’m the lineup editor on our half hour newscast. Basically that means I decide which story goes where in the show. It’s a tricky job, because you have to get your pacing and everything going just fine. Luckily I’ve got lots of stories to work with, including my feature which worked out okay after all that hassle. I got my final interview this morning which was a bit scary. I knew I needed a fifteen second sound bite from this woman that didn’t trample all over my script. She gave me 14 seconds and 28 frames that lightly kissed my script’s toes. It was sweet like borscht ain’t.
I went out to do more shooting last night, and I got a great interview with a projectionist at Western Film. Projectionists enjoy Fight Club references. It’s not framed as tight as I wanted it, but considering I was near tossing the whole thing away the night before last, I’m pretty fucking happy.
Feeling a bit better now. I’m working on a script that might get around the host of shitty parts to my piece. And last night I did my traditional bad day wind down of watching Magnolia. Tonight I’ll get a bit more footage and hopefully everything will work out okay on Tuesday.
It’s been a crappy day here in the land of me. But it’s my own fault so what the hell. My TV interviews all got messed about so now I have way too much to do on Monday and Tuesday. Nobody will contact me back, the bastards. We did our first half hour newscast on Wednesday and that went really well. I was the local reporter and just went out and whipped off a story. All by myself, a regular Robert Rodriguez.
